A friend of mine was savvy enough to talk her boss into letting her work remotely from Donner Lake, CA, which is a little lake very close to Lake Tahoe, for a month and she was nice enough to invite us up to stay with her. We took her up on it over Labor Day weekend and had a super time. Despite being a holiday weekend it wasn't crowded at all and the weather was typical early fall mountain weather - cold in mornings and evenings and swimming weather during the day.
