Rain, Rain, Rain

We have had a TON of rain over the past few weeks.  Yesterday was supposed to be beautiful with a 0% chance of rain, but within a matter of minutes a big storm rolled in and caused us to have to hunker down in a tiny cave.  Keith this area might look familiar to you?  This is the entrance to a slot canyon called the Black Corridor and there isn't usually any water here.  It was really neat to see the flash flooding (from a safe distance of course!).  I don't think I've ever been out there when things were fully raging like this.  It pretty much torrentially downpoured for about an hour.  

Not exactly the most flattering picture of us, but here we are trying to stay dry under the little overhang.  A colleague of Mandy's from China was out with us and this was her first experience in the Nevada dessert.  It wasn't exactly what she expected :)

Adam has 2 new blog posts

For some reason blogger isn't showing when Adam posts a new blog in the "Blog Feed".  So if you haven't seen the last installment of our honeymoon adventures, or what is the latest fashion on the north slope, check them out.

This weekend I took a little trip to Crawdad Canyon in Veyo, UT.  This awesome climbing park is set amongst cinder cones, wildflowers, streams, and vast open basins.  In my opinion it's in one of the most beautiful areas of the west.  Adam and I always say that the Mormons sure did choose well when they chose to settle mostly in Utah.  I didn't take any pictures while climbing but you can check out the park here.  It's a moderate climbers paradise and also has a POOL (which on this holiday weekend was filled with a billion kids but is usually really nice for an after-climb soak).  Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Yesterday Adam and I did our first 14er together.  Adam was a hard man and actually MOUNTAIN BIKED the peak while I chose the more conventional hike.  It was amazing and super hard.  3,500 ish elevation gain and 15 miles round trip (I forgot to turn the gps back on for part of the hike which is why is shows less here).  We even got the full value afternoon rain/hail storm on the way down.  In Bishop now refueling and then heading on to Bridgeport.  Having a great time!!

 A bit of damage to the front

 Transmission crack (up and to the right of the red seal) and chip in transmission (toward center of photo)

 They thought it was leaking oil initially but it was transmission fluid

 Nice gash down the gas tank.  The area toward the center right was the main hole where all of the gas gushed out (forgot to take a pic from the other side to see the hole).

 Bent up exhaust and busted (electrical?) box toward the rear.

Fat Toad

I nearly squished this awesome fat toad as I was watering my mom's plants.

It had made a nice comfy hole for itself and didn't seem to mind me flashing away!

Holidays 2012-2013

 

 Because Adam was going to be in Alaska over Christmas this year, we had our own little celebration before he left.  Meager I know, but it did the job.

 

 I wasn't aware, but I guess he was a good boy this year :)

 On my first night back in Ohio we went to a Greek restaurant (sort of) where I had the best lamb I've ever tasted.  It was amazing.

 As most of you know, while home Karen and Sarah put on a bridal shower for Adam and me at Pat and Karen's house.  As usual, the food and company was excellent.

 Need about 9 suitcases to get that all back to Vegas :)

 On New Year's Eve Gina and I went over to Tony's and did a little sled riding.  Even though I've become a huge baby when it comes to the cold, it was a really fun time!  Gunner was obsessed with the boogie board.  He'd chase you down the hill and then carry it back up - kinda convenient!

 Gunner to the rescue!  This hill actually worked pretty well once we got it packed down, contrary to how crappy it looks.

 Gunner LOVED eating the snow.

 I just think he's so pretty against the white snow.

 

It felt like prom - Mom had to take pics before going out for New Year's Eve :)
