My New Pony

This may be a bit more detail that you'd care to have but I posted these to show Adam. So as you can see, I took the plunge today and bought a bike! Perhaps a bit more bike than I need (or can handle) right now, but I'm optimistic that I'll grow into it :) I can't wait for Adam to come back and get his so I'll have someone to scrape me up off the trail!

Spring Flowers

Ok Harrington clan, what kind of flowers are these in the picture above? I'm a bit botanically challenged.

It's Been a While!

Soo...it's been awhile. In all honesty, not a whole lot new has been happenin'. I kind of feel like I'm living in the movie Groundhog Day. I get up, go teach, come home, read for my grad classes, maybe go to class, maybe write a paper or response for a class, and repeat. However, since I've posted last I did make it back to Ohio for Christmas and I got a long overdue visit from my old college roommate and friend Kim! The pics below are from a visit with grandma Frank over Christmas, a trip to the Kelso Dunes with Kim, and a Zappos company party that I went to with my friend Christi, who's cousin is an awesome high end party planner out here and planned the shindig. It was a 1920's party and awesomely done! Professional swing dancers, places where you could get your hair and make-up done, free drinks, free props. Of the about 1000 people there, I think I only saw about 10 that hadn't dressed up. Well, I have decided to give myself the day off from my groundhog life and am going to go hiking in the snow with Adam. Till next time....

Happy Thanksgiving!

Makeshift table for 11 in the living room
Yesterday was COLD. The temp was 29 degrees when everyone arrived at 6pm.
This year we held the refugee Thanksgiving in our little home. It ended up turning out great even with close quarters. I hope everyone had a wonderful day!

Summer Fauna

We were having a picnic on Mt. Charleston and this little guy wanted to get in on it. He was very persistent, but in the end only ended up getting our crumbs.
For some reason as a science teacher you think that you've seen/heard of most of the terrifyingly weird creatures that exist, but I had never experienced these guys. I think they're called Fox Bats and have a wingspan of over 4 feet. Imagine that flying at you!! Perhaps they're especially terrifying to me because we have a lot of bats here at dusk that like to dive bomb you as you're out taking a walk. P.S. - these were at the Columbus Zoo
Pretty Birds - Columbus Zoo
This owl never came out from behind the tree, but look at the size of those FEET!! I know it's hard to tell the scale, but they were each about 8 in across. I'm pretty sure this guy could pick up a small child if he wanted to.
Perhaps a bearded dragon? That's Adam's guess. Also at the Columbus Zoo.
This is from our front yard zoo. This roadrunner likes to frequent our yard and make funny squaking/clicking sounds. Up until about 2 years ago I had never seen a real one, but they're easily identifiable as they really do run just like the roadrunner on loony tunes.
And he/she's off ...
...and running down the road
Burro babies. There are TONS of babies in Blue Diamond this year. So many in fact that the BLM is trying to decide what to do with them because the herd size is too big. I'll keep you posted. The babies are super cute though. They remind me of puppies because they like to chase each other around and roll around in the dirt.
