American Fork Utah - a Visit with Scott Daly

On our way from Maple Canyon to the Tetons we stopped over in Salt Lake City to visit and old friend Scott and his wife Sarah. They provided us with a meal not cooked on a camp stove and a shower which we badly needed. He also drove us up into American Fork Canyon just to check the place out b/c it was late evening by the time we arrived in Salt Lake. Very beautiful! I'd love to go back and stay awhile. Scott and Leah couldn't resist trying to boulder in their flipflops.

Too Good to Last

So, after 2 nearly perfect weeks on the road, Leah and I are currently in a 1960's HoJo in Utah after an aborted day of climbing in Idaho which included bad directions, swarming grasshoppers, a car stuck in the sand on a supposed "two wheel drive accessible dirt/sand road," cow paddies, and some damage to my car which I believe to be a puncture hole in my muffler. Notice the grasshoppers on my windshield. I'll post more about the fun in the Tetons and Yellowstone later!

Prescott Fun

A little slack lining at the local park. I can at least stand on it now!

Prescott Blue Grass festival - pretty good!

Cowboy statue downtown. Prescott is one of the oldest towns in the West.

I call this one "Beauty Through Bug Guts"

Arrow and I took another trip out to Red Rock and much to his dismay, I took more pictures. Things are soon to be great here b/c I just have to make it through 3 days of exam giving and then I'm a free woman!! (except for 1.5 weeks of classes). Off to grade some papers I've been putting off for about a month now.

Only 10 more days of school!! I can't wait! The students are getting antsy and I think I'm even antsier. Plans are coming together for the summer - I think Lea, and possibly Jody and I are going to head up to Yellowstone at the end of June and hopefully hit Devils Tower while we're up there. I'm psyched b/c ever since I saw a picture of Devils Tower when I was little, it was on the top of my list of places to visit - I don't know why, it's just so bizarre looking I guess. Adam has been on fires in Southern California for the last two weeks but may be back in Prescott for the upcoming long weekend. I might go down and visit if I can afford the gas. The top picture is of a pretty lake just outside of Prescott (I forget it's name at this time) and the bottom two are of the construction for the new bridge over the Colorado so that people no longer can drive on Hoover Dam (sorry for the crappy photography but I was driving and picture taking at the same time-bad I know). It's a pretty impressively large project - although I believe you'll still be able to drive on the dam if you pay to take a tour - defeats the point doesn't it? Well that's all for now!

Springtime in the Desert

I'm not sure if I just never noticed, or the desert really hasn't bloomed like this since I've lived here, but Red Rock is absolutely amazing right now. Arrow and I took a trip out today and these are a few of the pictures which really don't do it complete justice.

Almost Over

So, I'm a pretty bad blogger. I've been really busy as usual with my 3 night classes along with my 12 hr teaching days. I'll be really interested to see what I end up teaching next year - it's about that time when schedules start materializing and I'm HOPING that this will be the year when I get to teach at least ONE class that I taught the year before. Cross your fingers. I've also been taking some trips to Prescott as Adam's now gone there to be a wildfire heli-rappeller for the summer - check out his crew's site here. I'm trying to start getting some plans together for the summer, so if you're interested in exploring the west coast (I'm open to suggestions) let me know. I'll be free from June 20th to July 15th - then home to Ohio for two weddings. Overall, I can't believe that this school year is almost over. I think there are only like 28 more days. Ok, so I'm pretty boring right now which is why I haven't posted lately. Until next time, I'll leave you with some old, but good pics. They are, Sedona Arizona, fly fishing in Rocky Mountain National Park - I was the only one who caught (an extremely small) fish, some old New River Gorge Pics - check out Adam's long hair!!
